When the Dutchman joined us pitchside at a bitterly cold The Valley following our FA Cup victory over Charlton, we put that phrase to him and the man himself couldn’t hide his delight, with a broad smile etched across his face. Signed from Ajax in the summer, he was – you’d imagine – signed to help add to our defensive ranks. He is, after all, known as being a left-back or left-sided centre-half in his homeland. But he will go down in the record books as being the first Chelsea player to score under the tenure of Liam Rosenior, firing home our first in the 5-1 FA Cup victory. And, we should add, it was an absolute bullet of a finish that any striker would have been proud of.  ‘To be honest, I was a little bit surprised when it went in so that’s why I didn’t really celebrate too much!’ Hato explained, with a wry smile, of his first Chelsea goal when asked to talk us through it. ‘I think it was a good hit and I’m just so happy to score for this great club.  After weeks of rumours about ongoing interest and positive talks, Milan confirmed the signing of Füllkrug on an initial loan deal from West Ham United just hours after the window had officially opened on January 2. In actual fact, the striker had been training at Milanello with his new teammates since Boxing Day, thanks to the clearance granted by the London club. The aim was to have him ready for Massimiliano Allegri for the match against Cagliari, and he did indeed make the squad. Not only that, but we got a cameo from the German off the bench, and he grew into the game after a rusty start. What can fans expect from a player many West Ham fans were happy to see the back of? Back story Niclas Füllkrug was born in Hanover on 9 February 1993 in Hanover, Germany. He played for a number of different local sides including TuS Ricklingen – where he spent eight years from 1996 to 2005 – and then Sportfreunde Ricklingen for one year. It is believed that while with the former he averages ...

CINCINNATI -- Bob Trumpy, who was an original member of the Cincinnati Bengals for 10 years before enjoying a career as a network radio and television analyst, has died. He was 80. The Bengals announced on Sunday that Trumpy died peacefully and was surrounded by family at home. The team had a moment of silence before its game against the Chicago Bears. "I've known Bob since we started here and he had an extraordinary career as both a player and a broadcaster," said Bengals president Mike Brown said in a statement. "He was an exceptional and rare tight end who could get downfield and split zone coverages. Speed was his hallmark. He was as fast as any wide receiver and was a deep threat. That was rare for a tight end then and it's rare now. "As a broadcaster, he made his mark both locally and nationally, and excelled at sports other than football in a career that was as successful as what he accomplished on the field." Trumpy played collegiately at the ...

It was a relatively tame week for college football fans, with no upsets in the top 12 and only six in the Top 25 — three of which came in ranked matchups. Ohio State has been the clear No. 1 since Week 1 and remains there going into Week 10 after a bye. Indiana halted a surging UCLA team that had been rolling since its coaching change, routing the Bruins 56-6. No. 3 Texas A&M erupted in the second half, overcoming an 18-14 halftime deficit to LSU and outscoring the Tigers 35-7 after the break. South Carolina had No. 4 Alabama on the ropes, but a late fumble recovery gave the Crimson Tide a chance to score for a 29-22 victory. Alabama scored 15 points in 2:16 to escape Columbia with the win. Georgia remains at No. 5 after an idle Week 9. No. 6 Oregon took care of business against Wisconsin, winning 21-7, and stays just outside the top five. Ole Miss picked up a top-15 win over Oklahoma, 34-26 on the road, to move up to No. 7 in this week’s AP Poll. Georgia Tech beat Syracuse 41...
